LOS ANGELES – Six to eight blue whales were spotted Thursday off the Long Beach coast.
A spokeswoman for the Long Beach Aquarium of the Pacific said the whales typically feed off the Santa Barbara channel in summer. She said the whales might be in the area because they found food in San Pedro Bay.
The whales are about eight milles from the beach.
"It’s always exiting to know they’re in the neighborhood," said Ed Cassano of the aquarium. "If they’re feeding and hanging out, that’s a significant event."
