BAR SPECIAL REPORT
An
ancient ivory pomegranate that has been the subject of contentious legal
proceedings may be authentic after all–and the implications are
astounding.

BAR
editor Hershel Shanks brings us a special report on the latest
developments surrounding the famous forgery trial in Jerusalem. Noted scientist Yitzhak
Roman of the Hebrew University has examined the inscription on the
pomegranate, which reads "[Belonging] to the Temple of [Yahwe]h, holy to the
priests" and determined that it is authentic. This seriously
undermines the case of the Israel Antiquities Authority, who is trying to
demonstrate that the pomegranate and several other artifacts, including
the James Ossuary inscription, are forgeries. Not only that, but if the
pomegranate is authentic, then it is the only surviving relic from
Solomon’s Temple
known to exist today.

MAKING SENSE OF KOSHER LAWS
A
look at how Jewish dietary law is practiced by many in today’s modern era

We are in the midst of a season when family and friends come together to
commemorate the holidays, and shared meals are often the focus of these
celebratory gatherings. This week, we take a closer look at the dietary
laws that govern many Jewish households. While the exact origins of
kosher law (kashrut)
have long been a matter of debate, it nonetheless has a significant
impact on the daily life of many observant Jews. Join us online this week
to learn more about the ancient tradition that, for many, is an inherent
part of faith.
