The Shroud on Television and Video

April 3, 2009
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The recent Discovery Channel documentary, "Unwrapping the Shroud: New Evidence," will be shown again in the U.S. this coming Sunday, April 5, 2009, at 6:00 p.m. Eastern time.  For those of you living in the United Kingdom and Europe, the program will premiere on Discovery Europe on Easter Sunday, April 12, 2009 at 9:00 p.m. London time.  Please check your local listings to be sure you don’t miss it.
Also, I recently heard from David Rolfe, producer of 1978’s award winning feature film, "The Silent Witness" (the first Shroud documentary) and the 2008 BBC documentary, "Shroud of Turin."  He has made both programs available as very economical downloads at his Performance Films website.  This is a great way to see the 2008 program, which has yet to air here in the U.S., and acquire your own copy of the classic 1978 film that paved the way for all those that followed.
That is the good news. Now for some that isn’t quite so good. On Monday, April 6, 2009, at 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, the Discovery Channel will air a new documentary titled, "The Da Vinci Shroud."  Needless to say, this one is likely to be far more typical of recent television programs on the Shroud. Please remember that those of us that appear in these programs have no control over the content or editing.  In fact, I just learned of the program’s title a few days ago. even though the interview was taped on January 4, 2009. One can only hope they conclude the program by dismissing the theory that Da Vinci created the Shroud as the impossible and ludicrous idea it is.  Watch for a detailed review in my next update, which will go online around May 1, 2009.
On the subject of the 2010 Shroud Exhibition, I received a note from my dear friend Brian Woods, a volunteer and lecturer at the Shroud Center of Southern California.  He wrote directly to the Archdiocese of Turin regarding the dates of the exhibition and was told they are 10 April 2010 to 15 May 2010.  So far, the Turin authorities have made no official public announcement as to the dates or the reservation process, so I have hesitated putting this information on the website.  As soon as I have any definitive information, you will be the first to know.
Let me also take this opportunity to wish all of you who celebrate them a joyous Easter or Passover and thank you again for your continued support and participation. It is truly appreciated. And don’t forget to check the Private Subscribers Page from time to time for exclusive offers and materials not available to the general public.
