This week in the news, Egypt announces that it will drop its campaign for the return of the Rosetta Stone from Britain in exchange for the artifact’s loan to its country of origin. Elsewhere in Egypt, Polish archaeologists discover a hoard of coins at the Naqlun monastery. Meanwhile in Israel, a Minoan-style painting is discovered in a Canaanite palace, while recent excavations shed new light on the ancient territory controlled by the Hasmoneans. In southeastern Turkey, cuneiform tablets illuminate archaeologists’ understanding of the administration of ancient Assyria’s government. Exciting exhibits in Boston, New York and Los Angeles

Several exhibits showcasing the ancient world are currently being presented in some of America’s finest museums. The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, Massachusetts, is hosting The Secrets of Tomb 10A: Egypt 2000 B.C., an exhibit that showcases not only extraordinary artifacts from an ancient tomb for the first time, but that also highlights the modern skill of conservators and restorers. In New York, the American Museum of Natural History presents Traveling the Silk Road: Ancient Pathway to the Modern World, while Molten Color: Glassmaking in Antiquity at the famed Getty Villa in Los Angeles displays more than 180 beautiful glass objects from across the ancient world in its exhibit.
