Catholicism Basics Seasons and Holidays Prayers

From Scott P. Richert, your Guide to Catholicism
It is never easy to lose a loved one, but as Christians we take comfort in the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. The example of the faithful departed helps us to prepare our own souls for the day when we leave this life behind. Indeed, our entire life on this earth is a preparation for the next–and one way to keep that in mind is to pray without ceasing for our own beloved dead.
Paul Janasik, R.I.P.

It is with profound sadness that I announce the death of my maternal uncle and godfather, Paul Janasik. Uncle Paul passed into eternal life on Friday, July 2, 2010, about two months after he was diagnosed with a form of leukemia. He had a profound effect on my life and on my work for the About.com GuideSite to Catholicism, and I want to thank the readers of this newsletter for their many prayers for Uncle Paul over the past few weeks.

Novena of the Week: Daily Prayers for the Faithful Departed
