Tolkien, author of “The Lord of the Rings” series? A New York journalist asked the Tolkien Society in 2002: “Is there any day devoted informally to readings from the trilogy, in the way that ‘Bloomsday’ is devoted to Joyce?” That simple inquiry prompted the Tolkien Society to create Tolkien Reading Day first celebrated in 2003.
